The media (David French, Jake Tapper, Ezra Klein, and more) are obsessed with getting to the bottom of why no one pushed an old man to quit his job.
The reason is simple. It’s rooted in the American ideal that you are worthless without work, that your contribution to the capitalist machine is all that matters, that without wealth you are worse than nothing.
By rehashing the failures of the past, we are not moving forward to the future. There are plenty of real things going on RIGHT NOW that need our attention (the climate, genocide in Gaza, anti-Semitic murder, Russian aggression, and more). Because the Democratic party, with the help of the mainstream media, are obsessed with their blame game, finger-pointing, and mobius-strip thinking, they will continue to lose.
Trump is a mental case, too, don’t forget. He’s old, racist, and entrenched in his ancient ideas. Yet he’s taking steps to do something, even if that something ruinously affects the country and its people. And our uneducated (thanks to perpetual cuts to education funding and the rise of social media without guardrails) populace eats it up.
The American ideal is that without wealth you are worse than nothing, and anyone who is coming into our country from outside must be trying to steal the little wealth we are clinging to. They forget the wealth that has filtered up to the 1% at the top who will do anything to keep it, and with it, their power and status.
Stop the blame game. Move forward, or we’ll all be left behind.
